Since the pandemic hit, immigration throughout the world, including Canada has come to a standstill leaving thousands of people in limbo. However, with the promise of a vaccine just around the corner, things are starting to pick up again.
On November 12 2020, 443 notifications of interest were sent out to through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to individuals who may qualify for Ontario’s Express Entry under the Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream.
Human Capital Priorities Stream:
The HCP stream is an enhanced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and allows for OINP to seek out candidates from the Express Entry pool and nominate them for permanent immigration to Canada. Only candidates who are eligible under Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class can apply for the HCP stream.
While a job offer from an employer in Canada is not necessary, candidates will need to demonstrate at least one year of full-time work experience in their eligibility criteria, internationally or within Canada. Part-time equivalent work experience is also acceptable as long as it falls within the last five years.
In order to be eligible for nomination, candidates must have an active profile in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) Express Entry pool.
What is the Express Entry Pool?
The Express Entry Pool is system established by IRCC to organize the immigration applications for the following groups:
- Federal skilled worker class (FSWC);
- Federal skilled trades class (FSTC);
- Canadian experience class (CEC);
- One part of the provincial nominee class (PNP).
Candidates who received a notification of interest were targeted based on scores between 469 and 477 on Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and had to fall within one of the occupations listed below:
- Advertising, marketing and PR managers;
- Financial auditors and accountants;
- Financial managers;
- Corporate sales managers;
- Other financial officers;
- Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses;
- Dietitians and nutritionists;
- Allied primary health care practitioners.
- Professional occupations in business management consulting;
Candidates who successfully received the provincial nomination are automatically given 600 additional points on the CRS and will receive an Invitation to Apply for their Canadian permanent residency. They now have 45 days to submit their application for permanent residency online and are subject to the standard admissibility requirements for immigration to Canada.
Over 8,000 Notifications of Interest Issued in 2020
Since January 2020, OINP has issued 8,414 notifications of interest to candidates who have profiles in the Express Entry Pool and who have ranked high IRCC’s ranking system.
