Provincial Nominee Program: Outlook for first Week of February

Both Alberta and Ontario held provincial nominee programs draws on January 28 2021 and February 2 2021 respectively. Immigration candidates with valid profiles in the Express Entry pool were selected for both draws. Alberta issued 100 invitations while Ontario issued 283 invitations to apply.

Ontario holds new PNP draw for Express Entry candidates

283 candidates who may be eligible through the Human Capital Priorities Stream were selected from Express Entry pool in latest provincial nominee program draw in Ontario. Work experience in specific occupations and a CRS score of 466-467 were required in order to qualify.

On February 2 2021, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued targeted notifications of interest to candidates who may be eligible for Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities.

The Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream is an immigration stream under the OINP. It is meant to attract foreign workers who have a specific skillset and work experience that can help fill the gaps in the province’s labour market and contribute to Ontario’s economic growth.

A total of 283 candidates from the Express Entry pool were invited to apply for a provincial nomination.

A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 466 to 467 was required in order to be eligible. In addition, candidates also had to demonstrate and prove they have at least one year of work experience in one of the occupations listed below:

  • NOC 0122: Banking, credit and other investment managers.
  • NOC 0124: Marketing, advertising, and public relations managers.
  • NOC 0125: Other business services managers.
  • NOC 0601: Corporate sales managers.
  • NOC 1111: Financial auditors and accountants.
  • NOC 1112: Financial and investment analysts.
  • NOC 1121: Human Resources Professionals.
  • NOC 1122: Professional occupations in business management consulting.
  • NOC 3012: Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses.
  • NOC 4163: Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants.

It’s important to remember that candidates who received an invitation, were not invited to apply for their permanent residency. They were instead invited to apply for a provincial nomination.

If successful, the provincial nomination will give the applicant an additional 600 points on their CRS score, boosting them up from the original 466 – 467 to 1066 – 1067 (or higher). A score this high, puts the applicant in a prime position to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITAs) from IRCC to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

In 2020, a total of 6,716 candidates were invited by OINP to apply for a provincial nomination through the Human Capital Priorities stream. Given Canada’s aggressive approach to increase immigration levels for 2021, that number may be a lot higher this year.

216 invitations issued in newest BC PNP draw

B.C. continues the trend of weekly draws by holding another provincial nomination program draw on February 2. BC PNP issued a total of 216 invitations to qualified candidates in the Skilled Worker, International Graduate and Entrepreneur streams. Minimum score requirements were varied.

A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw was held in British Columbia on February 2 2021 and 208 immigration candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination.

The BC PNP draw selected candidates from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate and Entrepreneur streams, specifically under the Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration categories.

The minimum score requirements for the categories were as follows:

CATEGORIESMINIMUM SCORE

SI – Skilled Worker98
SI – International Graduate98
SI – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled79
EEBC – Skilled Worker104
EEBC – International Graduate100

Candidates selected under the Express Entry BC stream must have submitted a profile in Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Express Entry pool. The selected candidates will automatically earn an additional 600 points on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score which more often than not will guarantee an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

The Skills Immigration stream is ideal for foreign workers who are looking to settle in B.C. and who ideally already have a job offer in hand from an employer in B.C.

Much like the previous draws held in the province of B.C. several occupations such as tourism, retail, hospitality etc. were excluded from the skills category due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic.

Entrepreneur Stream:

This program is designed for established entrepreneurs who are looking to open a business in B.C. or purchase one. Candidates are assessed based on factors such as their net worth, their business plan, their experience etc.

In order to be eligible, candidates needed a score of at least 122.
