The federal government maintains momentum by holding two back-to-back rounds of invitations for provincial nomination and CEC candidates. Draws result in a combined total of 3,463 ITAs being issued. IRCC needs to issue less than 3,000 invitations in order to meet its target of 108,500.
IRCC holds new Express Entry draw for PNP candidates
463 immigration candidates with provincial nominations were selected in the newest Express Entry draw
August 18, 2021 saw a new Express Entry draw held Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
It was a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) specific draw, meaning only immigration candidates who received a provincial nomination were eligible for the draw. In total 463 candidates were issued invitations to apply for permanent residence.
The required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the draw was 751 or higher. If the cut-off score seems high it’s because the selected candidates were awarded 600 extra points on their existing CRS scores. This means the actual CRS for each of these candidates hovered at 151.
IRCC published a cut-off time as per the tie-break rule. This is done for administrative purposes, regardless of whether there is a tie or not. In order to be considered for this draw, candidates who met the CRS requirement had to have submitted their profiles into the system by April 13, 2021, at 16:29:29 UTC.
Compared to last year around this time, the number of Invitation to Apply (ITAs) that IRCC has issued, is almost double. This comes as no surprise as the federal government’s 2021 aim is to welcome 108,500 newcomers into Canada through Express Entry.
Express Entry draw held for CEC candidates: 3,000 invitations issued
Candidates with CRS score of 403 or higher were eligible for the newest draw
In recent months, IRCC has been following a trend of holding back to back PNP and Canadian Experience Class(CEC) specific draws.
Following the draw for PNP candidates on August 18, a second draw for CEC candidates who met the minimum CRS score of 403, was held on August 19, 2021.
A total of 3,000 immigration candidates received an ITA. They can now apply for their Canadian permanent residency.
In order to be eligible for the draw, candidates were required to submit their profiles by August 1, 2021, at 10:13:57 UTC. Although there was no tie, this cutoff time was published by IRCC for administrative reasons.
For the past eight months, IRCC has been holding two specific draws and issuing invitations only to PNP and CEC candidates. The reason being, the majority of these candidates are already residing and even working in Canada.
By focusing on these candidates, the federal government was able to bypass the pandemic-related complications of travel restrictions and border closures.
So far in 2021, IRCC has issued a total of 105,799 invitations.
If another round of invitations is held in two weeks, by early September, IRCC will have met its target of issuing 108,500 ITAs to Express Entry candidates in 2021.
They are currently short by 2,701 ITAs.
