Provincial Nominee Program: Outlook for First Week of August

During the first week of August, Alberta releases draw results from previous week while B.C. holds regular weekly draw. Approximately 294 immigration candidates received invitations through these provincial draws. If successful, they will be one step closer to becoming a Canadian permanent resident.

Alberta releases PNP draw results

Province requires higher CRS score compared to last draw

On July 29, 2022, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) held a new Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw for eligible candidates.

A total of 120 candidates were selected from the Alberta Express Entry stream. They had to meet a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 473 or higher in order to qualify for the draw.

The score requirement was higher than the last draw held on June 16, when the minimum CRS requirement was only 300.

Aside from meeting the scoring requirement, eligibility for the AEE stream includes already having a profile in the federal Express Entry system and demonstrating ties to the province. These ties can include completing studies in Alberta in the past, family members who are already settled in the province, a job offer or other similar things.

Candidates also have to demonstrate that they plan on living in the province permanently.

AAIP’s 2022 allocation for nominations is 6,500 as determined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). So far this year, the province has issued 3,877 nomination certificates to immigration candidates.

If Alberta wants to use up all the nominations, they will have to issue over 650 invitations over the following four months.

Weekly PNP draw held in British Columbia

Draw focused on targeting individuals from specific occupations as well as tech workers

Every week, British Columbia holds a PNP draw. And in what has become almost the norm, B.C. holds multiple draws at the same time.

During the draw held on August 3, 2022, the province surprisingly did not hold a general draw.

Less than 174 candidates received invitations from the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). They were selected from specific, targeted categories in order to help fill the gaps of the province’s labor market.

Selected candidates were chosen from the international graduate and skilled worker category and had to have experience in tech occupations.

A minimum Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS) score of 90 or more had to be met by the candidates, in order to qualify for the draw.

Additional draws were held for other occupations, they are as follows:

  • Early childhood educators and assistants – 22 invitations issued – score required 60
  • Healthcare workers – 9 invitations issued – score required 60
  • Healthcare assistants – less than 5 invitations issued – score required 60
  • Other priority occupations – less than 5 invitations issued – score required 60

Candidates who received an invitation will now have thirty calendar days to submit their applications for a provincial nomination.
